SSWS Plan for Continuity of Business

The Secure Sheep and Wool Supply (SSWS) Plan has continuity of business resources for producers and industry partners in case foot and mouth disease (FMD) infects U.S. livestock. One way to limit disease spread is to control the movement of animals and animal products. Producers can start preparing today using the guidance in the SSWS Plan to:

Develop contingency plans (pdf) for interrupted movement,
Limit exposure to their herd through enhanced biosecurity
Learn how to find early signs of FMD
Request a movement permit from State Officials for healthy animals going to harvest or another premises, and
Continue to supply safe and wholesome meat to consumers.

FMD is not a public health or food safety concern. Meat will still be safe to eat.
